What is Bikeability Level 1&2 combined course?
Level 1&2 teaches children how to grow more confident with each turn of the pedal. Our expert instructors will lead riders onto quiet roads, to experience “real” cycling. Suitable for children from aged 10+
A Bikeability Level 2 Journey – This is my adventure
At Bikeability Level 1&2 the following skills are practiced on single-lane roads and simple junctions with mostly moderate traffic flows (for more information about the training watch the video links below):
The following skills and are practised in motor traffic free environments and a rider needs to demonstrate core skills before being considered suitable to ride on the road:
Level 2 covers the following skills, they are practiced on single-lane roads and simple junctions with mostly moderate traffic flows:
- Identify and respond to hazards
- How to start an on-road journey
- How to stop an on-road journey
- Maintain suitable riding positions
- Comply with signals, signs and road markings
- Communicate with other road users
- How to cycle on a roundabout
- Negotiate junctions
- Turn Left (major to minor)
- Turn Right (minor to major)
- Turn Left (minor to major)
- Turn Right (major to minor)
Arrival & Start Times:
Instructors will be on-site by 9:45 AM, for a prompt 10 AM start. Please arrive in good time for your child’s bike to be inspected and do not leave until the instructor confirms the bike is suitable for the training. IF the bike is found to be unroadworthy your child may not be able to continue with the training. A course refund will NOT be available if this happens.
Breaks:
The Instructor will stop during the training please ensure you have provided your child with suitable snacks and a drinks for the day. If the training is all day, please provide a packed lunch.
Training Finish Time:
Training will wrap up around 3:00 PM. Arrive in good time to collect your child – please do not be late.
On the Road:
During highway training, instructors may need to raise their voices to ensure everyone stays safe. If a rider doesn’t follow instructions and puts the group at risk, they may be brought back to the training venue and need collecting. Please ensure you are contactable during the training hours at all times. If you have any concerns, chat with the instructors on the day.
Weather Considerations:
Training will usually go ahead, even in wet weather, unless conditions are extreme. Please check with the instructors if you’re unsure. Please make sure your child has suitable clothing and footwear for the training and if cold gloves!
Cancellations:
Cancelling a session should be rare and is ultimately up to the instructors. Last-minute cancellations may result in being charge the full £55 training charge.
