Working Together for Safe Roads: A Ward Member and Parish / Town Councillors Briefing
Join the West Berkshire Road Safety Team for an informative session designed specifically for Ward Members and Parish/Town Council representatives.
This event will provide:
- A clear overview of what the Road Safety Team does across education, training, engineering support, and speed management.
- Insight into how we work with schools, communities, Thames Valley Police, and Parish Councils to improve safety and behaviour on local roads.
- A walkthrough of the new Vehicle Activated Signs (VAS) and School Flashing Signs (SFS) Policy, including:
- Deployment criteria
- Funding and ownership models
- Application process
- How the scoring matrix works
- What the policy change means for Parish/Town Councils going forward
- Opportunities to ask questions about local concerns or future project ideas.

This session will help attendees understand how to raise issues, what evidence is needed, and how decisions are made — aligning local priorities with the Safe System approach.
Whether you're new to road safety or looking to stay up to date with policy changes, this workshop will give you the tools and knowledge needed to support safe communities.

- How you can work proactively with WBC to identify and resolve local road safety issues
Please arrive from 1:00pm to allow time to sign in, settle, and grab a seat. We will begin promptly at 1:15pm, as we have a full and engaging agenda planned. The session will run until approximately 4:00pm.
A water fountain is available on-site should you need refreshments during the afternoon. You’re welcome to bring your own reusable bottle.
There will be scheduled breaks and opportunities to ask questions, discuss local issues, and network with fellow Ward Members and Parish/Town Council representatives.
