Whether you work with the public, visit people in the community, or spend time working outdoors, difficult situations can arise when you least expect them.
This practical, engaging course gives you the skills and confidence to spot the early signs of conflict, stay calm under pressure, communicate effectively, and make safe decisions when faced with challenging behaviour. Through realistic scenarios and hands-on activities, you'll learn how to de-escalate tension, maintain professional boundaries, and move away from risk safely and confidently.
Suitable for all experience levels, the course is delivered in a friendly, supportive environment and focuses on real-life skills you can use immediately in your role.
You'll leave with:

Important Information for Your Training Day
Arrival & Start Time
Please arrive by 9:45am to allow time for registration and refreshments. The course will begin promptly at 10:00am, so we ask that all participants are ready to start on time.
Breaks & Refreshments
There will be comfort breaks throughout the training day. Please bring:
- A drink to stay hydrated
- Suitable snacks for break times
- A packed lunch
Training Finish Time
We aim to complete the main training session by 2:00pm. However, there will be an optional opportunity to stay and take part in additional practical personal safety activities for those who wish to further develop their skills.
To gain the maximum benefit from the course, please ensure you attend for the full training session.
Clothing & Footwear
The training will take place indoors and includes practical activities and scenario-based exercises. Please wear:
- Comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely
- Sensible, comfortable footwear suitable for light practical activity
Weather Considerations
As the training is delivered indoors, weather conditions should not affect the course. However, please plan your journey accordingly and allow extra travel time if adverse weather is forecast.
Cancellations & Non-Attendance
As places are limited, cancellations should be rare and only made when absolutely necessary.
If you are unable to attend, please provide at least 48 hours' notice so your place can be offered to another participant.
Please be aware that, as outlined in the booking consent, a charge of £50 may be applied for cancellations made with less than 48 hours' notice or for non-attendance without notice.
