Level 1 & 2 Combined Bikeability Course covers:
- Prepare myself for a journey
- Check the cycle is ready for a journey
- Riding with control
- Identify and respond to hazards
- Start and stop on-road journeys
- Maintain suitable riding positions
- Comply with signals, signs and road markings
- Communicate with other road users
- Negotiate junctions
Level 3 covers:
- To encourage and develop safe cycling skills
- To develop positive attitude towards road use
- To increase knowledge and understanding of the road traffic environment
- To give you the confidence to use their bikes on longer journeys
- Planning a route - this course is about giving the rider an understanding of preparing for a typical journey. IE cycling to school, visiting a friend etc.
Off-Road Training
Learn the cycle basics that build your skills and help you gain confidence in local parks and vehicle-free areas. All training takes place in a traffic-free environment.
Skills covered include:
- Starting and stopping safely
- Controlled braking
- Controlled braking
- Riding one-handed
- Looking behind whilst cycling
- Signalling intentions
- Cornering techniques
- Using gears effectively
On-Road Training
Develop the core skills needed to cycle confidently on the road - whether you're riding to the shops, leading a family ride, or commuting to work.
Skills covered include:
- Road positioning
- Effective communication with other road users
- Observation and hazard awareness
Our events or workshops are interactive sessions where you can learn specific skills or explore a topic in more detail. Practical and engaging, often in group activities or hands-on learning. They are led by experienced instructors and provide a great opportunity to ask questions and build confidence in a supportive setting.
Types of events and workshops we run include:
- Ride Down - a first aid awareness session tailored specifically for horse riders. It covers what to do if you're first at the scene of an incident involving a rider or horse, including how to manage injuries, communicate effectively with emergency services, and stay safe.
- Be a Better Biker - A skills-based session designed to help motorcyclists improve their road awareness, handling and overall safety through a mix of theory and on-road coaching.

Bikeability is the leading cycle training program designed for today’s roads. It teaches practical skills for safe cycling and builds confidence to enjoy the benefits of riding a bike. Cycle training is important as it enables children to develop the skills needed to cope with moving traffic and to become aware of other road users.
